Lake Zurich Ready for New Downtown Pitches

Village board declined a developer's proposal Monday, but is looking for other ideas to redevelop its downtown.

LZ Promenade maybe off the table in Lake Zurich, but the village is looking for other ideas for redevelopment.

Trustees voted to decline a proposal by LZ Promenade Monday night then decided it would post a request for other proposals.

Village President Tom Poynton said LZ Promenade could be in the mix for the village’s request for proposals down the line.

“I’m not, I won’t be,” said John Breugelmans, of LZ Promenade.

Trustee Jonathan Sprawka said the village has to clearly identify what incentives it will offer, establish a set of expectations and discuss infrastructure improvements that may be required.

The guidelines will allow developers to come in and know the deck of cards they are playing with, he said, adding the village needs to be expeditious and thoughtful when looking at proposals.

“We do need to have success downtown,” he said.
