Lake County TV: Courthouse Expansion Explained

Lake County officials provide an update on expansion project.

Lake County’s board approved a $100 million courthouse expansion last year and is moving ahead with its plans for the expansion. Lake County TV provides an update with County Chairman Aaron Lawlor and 19th Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Fred Foreman.

The current building, located in downtown Waukegan, opened in 1970 and was a state-of-the-art building at the time, Foreman said. However, the courthouse doesn’t have any more space to handle court cases, he said. Cases are sometimes heard in the county boardroom or other offices, Foreman said.

The new tower will have 17 courtrooms, he said.
