Lake County Gets New Family Courtroom

New courtroom aims to make family cases more efficient, less stressful.

“On behalf of the members of the Lake County Board and the judges of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, I am pleased to announce the completion of the construction of an additional courtroom located on the first floor of the courthouse,” said Chief Judge Fred Foreman. “The courtroom, known as Courtroom C-102, is a family courtroom that will provide much needed additional space to hear family matters and help expedite the process of handling family cases.”

“The opening of new Courtroom C-102 follows on the heels of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Family Division’s recent implementation of a trial call system. This system has helped move cases in a more efficient manner which reduces needless delay and expenses for litigants involved in family matters,” commented Judge Jay Ukena, Presiding Judge of the Family Division.

Judge Donna-Jo Vorderstrasse, Supervising Judge of the Family Division, added, “Most litigants involved in family cases are taxpayers, business owners and home owners in Lake County who have little to no previous involvement with the legal system until their custody or divorce case.”  “These cases can be emotional and overwhelming for the litigants. The opening of the new family division courtroom demonstrates the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit and Lake County Board’s continued commitment to improve the administration of justice for the citizens of Lake County and reinforces the Family Division’s commitment to assist the litigants in a patient and efficient manner during one of the most stressful times of their lives.”
