Incumbent President, Blank, Jackson Elected to Ela Area Public Library Board

Voters choose three most experienced candidates on the ballot to serve.

 For the three trustee positions on the Board, voters chose the three most experienced candidates electing Kathryn Caudill, Cindy Blank and Timothy Jackson, according to unofficial Lake County Clerk election results.

Of the 5,468 votes cast, Caudill led the field of candiates with 29.43 percent of the vote or 1,609 votes. Blank was second with 27.54 percent or 1,506 votes. Jackson garnered 23.52 percent of the vote with 1,286 votes. Suykerbuyk, who was not elected, had 19.51 percent or 1,067. Voter turnout for all of Lake County was just 14.98 percent or 60,787 of 405,690 registered voters. Nearly 5 percent of the votes cast were early ballots or votes by mail.

"Well that's wonderful news," said Caudill upon being informed of her victory. "I was pleased that Cindy (Blank) was elected as well. I"m looking forward to serving again on the board. It's been a privilege to serve."

Caudill, 52, the incumbent library board president, has been a Lake Zurich resident for 23 years.  She is director of a Chicago non-profit organization and is a licensed attorney.  She served as co-chair of a North Suburban Library System task force to create a library trustee training program.

"It was so exciting," said Blank. "I know her (Caudill) and I have a lot of respect for her.

Blank said she read the other candidates' profiles and said that herself and all the other candidates were qualified to serve. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the community," Blank said.

Blank, 57, a Lake Zurich resident for 29 years is retired after working at Kraft Foods for 29 years.  She earned several leadership awards while at the company. She also volunteers at and has been involved in LZHS Soccer and Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.

"When I was asked to consider a leadership role on the Library Board, I reflected on what I know of the Library as it functions today, its challenges going forward and how might my skills benefit the Library," Jackson said in his candidate profile.  "I think there is a good match – my financial and strategic management skills can help the Ela Area Library meet its mission now and into the future."

Jackson, 55, a Lake Zurich resident for 23 years, is executive manager at Medical Staffing Network. He has extensive experience working in diverse not-for-profit and government board roles.  He also served on the Lake Zurich Planning Commission for more than 10 years and recently completed eight years of service on the Board of Carmel Catholic High School.

Sukerbuyk said her candidate profile that she ran “… because I love Ela Library and resident I am invested in its continued success.  I want to help ensure that it will be a vital part of our community for my family, now and in the future.”

Sukerbuyk, 35, a Lake Zurich resident for 4-1/2 years, is a stay-at-home mom.
