Highlands Subdivision Added Back To Road Resurfacing Program

Lower-than-projected bids leave additional Motor Fuel Tax program funds to cover Prairie and Meadow lanes, and Spruce and Evergreen streets.

The Village Board on Monday approved funds to include four streets that previously had been removed from the road resurfacing program due to lack of money.

Lower-than-expected bids for the 2011 Motor Fuel Tax Road Resurfacing Program left enough funding to resurface Prairie and Meadow lanes, and Spruce and Evergreen streets.

“These additions were based on the approved road program budget of $1,182,039, which was $60,000 lower than what was requested to balance the budget,” said Public Works Director David Heyden.

Heyden said he had removed the Highlands subdivision initially due to concerns over estimated increases in the cost of concrete and asphalt.

. The company was awarded the road-resurfacing contract at the July 5 Village Board meeting.

Adding in the four additional streets will cost an extra $154,080, which leaves a balance of $65,000 in the road-resurfacing fund.

“I want to keep that money in the fund, which represents a 5 percent contingency, if we encounter anything unexpected during the road program,” Heyden said.

Deerpath Road between Old Rand Road and Route 12 near Lexington Health Care Center also was removed from the program and remains off the list, but it is expected to be included in next year’s road resurfacing budget, according to Heyden.
