Former Lake Zurich Trustee Appointed to Fill Board Vacancy

A familiar face returned to the Lake Zurich village board Monday as an appointee, filling the seat Mayor Thomas Poynton vacated when he was elected earlier this year.

Jonathan Sprawka will serve as trustee until April 30, 2015, the end of Poynton’s term.

“Mr. Sprawka will be a terrific edition to the energy dynamic and obvious intelligence of the new village board,” Poynton said.

Six people submitted a letter of intent or resume. One candidate was not a resident and ineligible to serve. Poynton felt Sprawka is up to speed on all the issues Lake Zurich is facing and has been an issues-oriented trustee who immerses himself in the issues.

Sprawka was elected to the board in 2009. He decided not to run for reelection because he was “really discouraged by the makeup of the village board in the past,” the 10-year Lake Zurich resident said.

“There is still work to be completed, given the new energy of the board to get it done, I felt it was an ideal time to come back,” Sprawka said.

He thanked his family_ his wife Sarah and daughters, Abby, 7 and Kate, 5 _ for their support as he dedicates time to the village. He also thanked his fellow trustees.

The new board has smart, passionate business people who want to move the community forward, Sprawka said.
