Village of Palatine Primary Election: One New Candiate, No Challenges So Far

Today is the final day to file paperwork for the February 26, 2012 primary for mayor, village clerk and village council seats. The sole new candidate is Tim Millar, incumbents Schwantz, Duer, Solberg and Helms all reportedly plan to run again.

There are a total of five elected seats that will be open for the February 26 primary election in the village of Palatine, and if you are interested in one of them, you have until 5 p.m. today to submit your paperwork.

Mayor Jim Schwantz's four-year term is up, and he plans to file paperwork before the deadline, in addition to District 4 Councilman Greg Solberg, whose term also is up, according to Village Clerk Marg Duer.

Duer said she and Brad Helms, District 6 councilman, both filed to reclaim their elected positions as village clerk and councilman, repsectively, on Monday, November 19.

The sole newcomer is Tim Millar, a current member of the District 15 school board.

Duer said Millar also filed November 19, to run in District 1, and barring any challengers between now and 5 p.m., could replace current district Councilman Aaron Del Mar.

Del Mar previously stated he does not plan to run again so that he can spend more time with his children, according to the Daily Herald.

As of this writing, no other candidates have filed to run against any of the other incumbents.

Requirements for each of the offices are a minimum of one year of residency in Palatine.

For council members, an individual must live within the district they desire to run in for at least six months prior to the election. You must also be a registered voter.

Filings will be accepted at Village Hall, 200 E. Wood Street, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the Village of Palatine website or call 847-358-7500.
