Ela First Says Slate Has Positive Impact on Community

As the municipal election nears, the Ela First slate of candidates continues to publicize their record of success in leading Ela Township the past eight years. This week their focus is on the positive impact they’ve had on the community. 

Lucy Prouty, Ela Township Supervisor, explained: “We feel our role in local government is to be public servants, working tirelessly on behalf of our neighbors to move Ela Township forward. We are proud of the things we’ve been able to accomplish on behalf of the families, seniors, and small businesses in Ela Township.” 

Ela Township has worked to expand programs in an effort to serve additional individuals. Ela’s senior program (55+) has nearly doubled in the past two years, now reaching over 2,500 seniors per month. The township has allocated funds to hire a part-time youth director, continues to maintain fields for youth sports, built a new concession stand at Knox Park, and will be using space in the Community Center to further expand youth programs. They are also working to improve existing facilities in the parks to ensure playgrounds and tennis courts are safe for children and residents. Additionally, Social Worker Programs now reach out to over 800 people in need each month. 

“Our goal has been to make life better for each and every one of our residents,” said Bill Donnan,Ela Township Clerk. “And I’m proud to say that we have accomplished that important work, all without increasing taxes or borrowing a dime.” 

Keeping with their theme of moving the township forward in a fiscally responsible way, Ela Township replaced the old Town Hall, originally the highway garage, with a new Town Hall. The new facility accommodates staff and social work programs, offers a community room which is used almost daily, houses a medical equipment lending closet, but most importantly is safer and more accessible than the previous location. They also converted the old Post Office into a new Community Center. All this was accomplished with no new taxes or borrowing. 

Thanks to these accomplishments, Ela First has received endorsements from leaders like Congressman Peter Roskam, State Senator Dan Duffy, State Senator Matt Murphy, State Representative Ed Sullivan Jr, Lake County Treasurer Robert Skidmore, Lake County Board Member Craig Taylor, Deer Park Village President Bob Kellermann, and former Lake Zurich Mayor Henry (Hank) Paulus. 

Ela Township serves 40,000+ residents and covers 36 square miles. Within its borders are all or part of the Villages of Barrington, Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, North Barrington, and portions of unincorporated Palatine and Mundelein.
