“In these tough economic times, government at every level ought to be tightening its belt just as those people we serve have had to tighten their belts,” explained Lucy Prouty, Ela Township supervisor. “That is why I’m proud that we’ve worked so hard these past eight years to reduce spending and maintain balanced budgets. This allowed us to take on several necessary projects such as the new Town Hall and the Community Center without increasing taxes or borrowing a dime.”

One of the areas the Township has been able to save taxpayers money is by spending wisely in the Highway Department. Under Highway Commissioner Bill Kruckenberg’s leadership the department spends only $55,157.76 per mile to maintain township roads, much less than surrounding townships including Avon Township which spends $104,325.35 per mile and Palatine Township which spends a whopping $173,199.19 per mile.

In addition to spending wisely and staying out of debt, the current township leadership has helped save taxpayers money. They were able to reduce garbage disposal fees for taxpayers in unincorporated areas. Also, Assessor John Barrington has worked tirelessly to help township residents understand the assessment and appeals process to help taxpayers file appeals and potentially save on their property taxes.

The current leadership’s record of fiscal responsibility is why Ela First has received endorsements from fiscal conservative stalwarts like Congressman Peter Roskam, State Senator Dan Duffy, State Senator Matt Murphy, State Representative Ed Sullivan Jr, Lake County Board Member Craig Taylor, Deer Park Village President Bob Kellermann, and former Lake Zurich Mayor Henry (Hank) Paulus.
