Downtown Lake Zurich Lookin’ Good

The village's downtown is getting a makeover as old, vacant buildings are demolished, changing the area's landscape for the better.

Lake Zurich has wasted no time in demolishing downtown buildings that have made the area look like a dead zone, with the hope the downtown's new look will spur revitalization.

The demolition started late last week and has progressed steadily this week. One building, 2-18 West Main Street, is almost gone and work is continuing on other sites.

Lake Zurich officials advised there will be partial lane closures until the demolition on that property is completed on Friday, Sept. 13. Motorists can expect delays on Old Rand Road and Main Street in downtown Lake Zurich.

Once demolition of 2-18 West Main Street is done, the contractor, Langos Corp., will move onto the other properties, which are:

  • 32 Mionske Drive
  • 28 & 37 Park Avenue
  • 61 West Main Street

Langos expects to be done with the demolition by mid-October. Clean up will continue through November.

Lake Zurich had purchased the buildings years ago as part of a revitalization effort, which stalled due to the economy. Officials hope clearing the buildings will attract future development in the downtown.
