Coolidge Wins Democratic Nomination in 6th District

Coolidge wins with 55 percent of the vote, beating out Geoffrey Petzel and Maureen Yates.

Barrington Hills resident has won the Democratic nomination to compete against Republican incumbent Peter Roskam for the 6th Congressional district seat.

Beating out her two opponents, and , Coolidge thanked her volunteers and supporters Tuesday around 9:15 p.m. at Cooper's Hawk in South Barrington.

“We’re here because of the work of everyone in the room,” Coolidge said.

Coolidge, who is a retired CPA, talked about taking her fundraising and grassroots campaigning to the next level when she faces Roskam in the November election. Roskam has held the 6th U.S. Congressional District seat since 2007 and has raised $1.8 million so far.

“We’re going to go at it from a grassroots perspective and the enthusiasm that has built up,” Coolidge said, “but we’re also going to fundraise and run a substantial campaign from that perspective as well.”

Coolidge received 53 percent of the vote, with 559 of 560 precincts in, as of 11:20 p.m. She credited her large volunteer base and mailing campaign for helping her secure the nomination.

The 6th Congressional District spans five counties including parts of Lake, Kane, McHenry, Cook and DuPage. The Illinois State Board of Elections has a district locator.
