Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center Hosts Annual Splash Bash Wednesday

Back-to-school event in its fifth year is open to Ela Township middle school students and aims to highlight township's youth programming offered.

The much-anticipated Splash Bash event sponsored by  is set for Aug. 17 at the Hawthorn Woods Aquatic Center, 94 Midlothian Road.

In its fifth year, the Splash Bash Party will include refreshments and, of course, the pool to be enjoyed by students entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades who are also residents.

There is a suggested $3 donation.

“The idea is to provide a fun event for the middle school kids to kickoff the season at the Ela Township Youth Center,” said  Trustee Anne Dobbertin. “We are always looking for more involvement.”

An after-school program for middle school kids offered by the youth center is based in the  building, 1025 Old McHenry Road, and includes activities such as basketball, rock climbing, foosball and pingpong, in addition to Guitar Hero, Wii and many other pastimes.

On Fridays, students can watch movies and eat pizza.

Boys and girls groups are also available, and time is set aside to help students complete their homework.  

Dobbertin said students are not required to be members of the to take advantage of youth programming.  

The youth center is open on days when school is in session from 2:30 to 7 p.m. 

On early dismissal days, the hours are 12:30 to 7 p.m.

For $5, middle schools kids can register and will receive a photo ID. That ID enables them to take advantage of the programming as well as free bus transportation to the from and and St. Francis Middle School.

The Splash Bash will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
