UPDATE: Homeowners Displaced By Kildeer Fire

Two residents, along with their dogs, escaped safely from their home Monday evening.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department still is investigating the cause of a three-alarm fire that destroyed a home in Kildeer on Monday evening.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 21396 Brandon Road just after 6 p.m. Upon arriving at the two-story, single-family home, firefighters saw flames and smoke coming from the home's three bay windows, and from the windows of the attached three-car garage, said Capt. Robert Bachler.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was activated for the three-alarm fire, drawing responses from fire departments in Barrington, Long Grove, Cary, Countryside, Palatine Rural, Nunda, McHenry, Round Lake, Buffalo Grove, Fox River Grove, Wauconda, Grayslake, Mundelein, Wheeling, Lake Forest, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights. Change of quarters was provided by the Lake Villa, Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Lake Bluff, Highland Park and Antioch.

The fire was under control within an hour. With no municipal fire hydrants in the area, water was accessed at a dry hydrant on Andover Road and a municipal hydrant at Quentin and East Cuba Roads, Bachler said. Water then was shuttled to the scene.

The homeowners, who escaped safely with their dogs, were displaced by the fire. A damage estimate is not yet available. Bachler said two firefighters reported injuries, but just one was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
