Update: FBI Agent Shoots Suspect in Richmond

Update 2:35 p.m.

FBI agents were tailing the suspects because they believed they had committed previous bank robberies and were planning another, the Chicago Tribune is reporting. 

One suspect is dead and another was taken into custody in the shooting that shook the small town of Richmond this afternoon.

Update 1:50 p.m.

The McHenry County Sheriff announced that Rte 12 north of Rte. 173 will be closed for several hours due to a police investigation of the shooting.

"The community is not in any danger," according to the advisory message. 

Alternate routes suggested include Keystone Road and Wilmont Road for those traveling in a north/south direction, according to the advisory. 

The FBI told ABC news agents were at the bank because of prior knowledge something was going to happen.

Update: 1:30 p.m.

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that an FBI agent shot a suspect during an investigation at the bank. The suspect is reported dead.

1 p.m.

An emergency dispatch issued at 12:43 p.m., Friday, reports an attempted bank robbery has occurred at Associated Bank near Routes 12 and 173 in Richmond.

The dispatch states multiple victims have been shot, and local schools are in lockdown.

The Northwest Herald reports several witnesses have said there was a shootout between FBI agents and a bank robber, or robbers. There is a heavy police and FBI presence stopping traffic near Route 12 near the bank, located at 10910 N. Main St., the story states.

Some witnesses told the NWH there appears to be a dead body in the bank parking lot, which could possibly be the robbery suspect, according to the Herald.
