Sheriff Makes it Easier to Track Sex Offenders in Unincorporated Lake County

OffenderWatch provides map showing where convicted sexual predators live and photos.

OffenderWatch, a new program on the Lake County Sheriff's Office website, will make it easier for residents to keep track of sex offenders living in their community.

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran announced the new OffenderWatch program in an April 27 press release. The program provides a user-friendly search to see where sex offenders and sexual predators live.

To use the search, log onto Sheriff’s Office webpage and click “Search for Offenders in your area” at the top left. Citizens can type in any unincorporated Lake County address to see where registered sex offenders and predators live.  A map displaying sex offenders and predators within a 2-mile radius of the address entered will appear along with their residential address. Citizens can match the number on the map with a name on the right side of the screen. Click the name and the offender’s photo and address appear. Click details to learn more about the conviction.

"I am excited about this new program as I believe it truly is a step up in safety and security for the children of Lake County," said Sheriff Mark Curran, in the press release.  "We are doing the best we can, given the economy and budgetary concerns, to keep up with technology and provide the citizens of Lake County with quality service."

The OffenderWatch program is also equipped with an Email Notification System. Citizens can click on the "Register for Email Alerts" icon and sign up (at no cost) to receive email alerts advising of sexual offenders and predators moving into their area and other important crime related information.
