Regional Crime Reports: Two Killed in Plane Crash, Star Quarterback Arrested and More

Crystal Lake

May 2

Two people near the , Crystal Lake police said.

The Northwest Herald reports Hugh Scott Clark, 65, of Lake Forest, and Paul San Filippo, 82, of Grayslake, died in the accident and "were in the front seats of the plane when it crashed."

A witness on the scene said they heard from the south to the north before going down. The witness said that the plane might have lost power.

Lake Forest

May 3

Former Lake Forest High School quarterback will face four misdemeanor counts resulting from his arrest at a house party at the University of Notre Dame early Thursday morning, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.

Rees, 19 who will turn 20 later this month, originally faced a felony battery charge for assaulting a Sound Bend (Ind.) police officer, but the charge was reduced to a misdemeanor. Rees used his right knee to strike a police officer in the lower chest area, according to the Tribune report.

Rees and four in 2010. He has been in a fight for the starting job this spring with Andrew Hendrix, Everett Golson and Gunner Kiel.

April 14

Michel E. Stark, 48, 525 Douglas Drive, Lake Forest, was charged with simple battery at 7:30 p.m. April 14 in the 400 block of Hastings Road. Stark had a disagreement with another person at the , threw a towel and hit the victim in the face. He was assigned an administrative hearing May 9 at .

Palatine

April 28

A 19-year-old Palatine woman is facing charges after police said she caused a two-car accident when she passed out after "huffing" cleaning chemicals while driving.

At 9:28 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Karli M. Casey, 19, of Palatine, was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer eastbound on the Northwest Highway when she crossed over into the westbound lanes and struck a 2006 Honda Accord that was westbound in the curb lane, according to a news release from the . The crash occurred at First Bank Drive and the Northwest Highway.

Casey was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound, improper lane use, and no proof of insurance. She was transported to the 3rd District Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Monday for a bond hearing.

April 28

Five cars were burglarized between April 27 at 3:40 p.m. and April 28 at 8:55 a.m. Three of the burgarlies occurred between the 200 and 1100 block of Old Bridge Road. The other two occurred between the 600 and 700 block of Balsam Lane. All vehicles were left unlocked.

April 26

A 1997 black Porsche was stolen sometime between April 18 at 6:30 p.m. and April 26 at 7:29 p.m. The car was parked in a parking lot in an apartment complex in the 1400 block of North Winslowe Drive. The car’s owner had returned from vacation when he noticed his car was missing from the spot where he parked it. Police confirmed that the vehicle was not towed away. The owner said no keys to the vehicle were missing.

Buffalo Grove

May 2

Officers responded to complaints of motorcycles revving their engines and making loud noise at 10:05 p.m. May 2 in the parking lot.

Officers found about 40 motorcycles and about 60 people milling about in the parking lot. Officers observed motorcycles entering and leaving the area at high rates of speed and at least one riding on one wheel. The official of the business was advised to have the illegal activities stop or the event would be shut down.

April 29

A complainant reported that a driver who was backing up in the parking lot yelled at the complainant as he drove through the parking lot to the drive-through at 6:45 p.m. April 29. The driver then got out and struck the complainant’s truck with a plastic garbage can. The officer contacted the other driver who apologized and stated that he overreacted.

April 27

A complainant reported April 27 that when she inquired at the about issues related to her post office box, she was treated rudely by the staff. When the postmaster asked her to leave, she did. The postmaster stated that the complainant had called and yelled at employees, then came into the office and continued yelling. An officer stood by while employees addressed the complainant’s issue with the post office box.

Grayslake

April 27

Glen Johnson, 44, of 6250 Garden View Lane, Matteson, was charged with driving under the influence, having no valid drivers license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. He was stopped on April 27 near Route 120 and Atkinson Road. He was released on $3,000 bond pending a court date of May 22.

April 29

Farris N. Adams, 28, of 2651 Kennedy Drive, North Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, DUI with a blood alcohol content of .08 or more, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, and illegal transportation of alcohol. He was stopped on April 29 near Route 45 and Washington Street. He was released on $1,000 bond pending a court date of May 15.

Libertyville

April 26

Several individuals were cited with alcohol-related offenses after a traffic stop April 26 on South Milwaukee Avenue.

Those arrested included: Tom A. Alexander, 26, of 1821 Greenfield Ave., North Chicago, charged with illegal transportation of alcohol, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and speeding; Darias M. Obryant, 20, of 2303 Krisman St., North Chicago, charged with illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and illegal transportation of alcohol; Tucker Cortez, 21, of 1112 Lincoln, North Chicago, charged with illegal transportation of alcohol and resisting and obstructing a peace officer; and Ebony Herrod, 20, of 39178 Welsh Lane, Beach Park, charged with illegal transportation of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Each was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond pending a May 7 court date. A 17-year-old individual was referred to juvenile court on an illegal transportation of alcohol charge.
