Preliminary Cause of Death Released for Nick Steward

The body found in a cornfield last week has been positively identified as Nick Steward, 33, of Lake Villa, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

DNA tests have positively identified the body found in a cornfield last week as Nick Steward, of Lake Villa, who had been missing since Sept. 20, according to ABC 7 Chicago. 

A preliminary cause of death showed that Steward, formerly of Vernon Hills, died from self-inflicted wounds from a "sharp instrument," such as a razor blade or a knife. He had a cut wound on his left wrist and two on his right wrist, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

The final cause of death will not be known for several weeks, according to ABC 7 Chicago. 

Steward, 33, disappeared on his drive home from Wood Dale to Lake Villa. His car was located last week at an apartment complex the 900 block of Westmoreland Drive in Vernon Hills last Thursday. 

Police found his body about 3/4-mile from the car in a densely wooded area, according to the Chicago Tribune. Steward was the father of a one-year-old boy and was married, according to the Daily Herald.
