Police Make Ruse Burglary Arrest

A Chicago man was arrested in connection with a ruse burglary that occurred in November.

A 37-year-old Chicago man was arrested in connection with a  that occurred in November on Denberry Drive.

Tony White, of 3225 N. Lawndale, Chicago, was arrested on a warrant Jan. 5 on a charge of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony.

Cmdr. David Bradstreet said four men committed a ruse burglary at the Denberry Drive home on Nov. 28. Bradstreet said one individual went to the door to distract the homeowner and then took the resident out back to check the property lines. In the meantime, the other men entered the home and took various items, including heirloom jewelry and a coin collection.

Those items later were recognized at a coin and jewelry show, and police were called.

The  obtained a warrant for White, who surrendered himself to Lake County Sheriff's Office personnel on Jan. 18. While his bond initially was set at $500,000, it was reduced at a bond hearing. He was released after posting $10,000.

Bradstreet said Lake Zurich had three ruse burglaries in 2011.

"If you don't know them, don't let them in the house," said Bradstreet. "These crews work all over the suburbs. You have to be very careful. It doesn't take very long. It only takes about five or 10 minutes."

He added that when in doubt, residents should call the police department.
