Police Blotter: DUIs and Other Traffic Arrests

TRAFFIC ARRESTS (DUI)                            

 Roman Maslanka, 62, who resides at 8200 O'Connor Drive in River Grove,  was arrested for driving under the influence on Oakwood Road at Commerce Drive in Lake Zurich, at 9:05 p.m., July 22.  Maslanka was charged with Driving Without Tail Lights, Improper Parking, Driving Under the Influence and Driving Under the Influence with a B.A.C. or .08 or More.  Maslanka was issued a Waukegan court date of Aug. 22 and released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. 

Joel Olascoaga, 34, who resides at 306 Dunbar Road in Wauconda, was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 12 at N. Old Rand Road in Lake Zurich, at 11:56 p.m., July 22.  Olascoaga was charged with Improper Lane Usage, Scott’s Law, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Child Endangerment and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Olascoaga was issued a Waukegan court date of Aug. 20 and released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond.  

Bruno T. Vanags, 52, 7 Whitman Terrace, Hawthorn Woods, was arrested pursuant to a traffic stop at 7 Whitman Terrace, Hawthorn Woods, at 1:14 a.m., July 25.  Vanags was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, improper lane usage, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and illegal transportation of open alcohol.  Vanags was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond with a Waukegan court date of Aug. 3.

Scott E. Bergstrom, 21, 21452 Sumac Court Deer Park, was arrested for DUI pursuant to a traffic crash investigation on Route 12 at June Terrace, July 25, at 10:59 a.m..  Bergstrom failed all field sobriety tests.  Bergstrom was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 and failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.  Bergstrom was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond with a Waukegan court date Aug. 27.

Traffic Arrest (Suspended)                     

 Tieria S. Salgado, 27, 405 North Cedar Lake Road Round Lake, was arrested for DWLS pursuant to a traffic stop on Oakwood Road at Midlothian Road, July 26.  Salgado was charged with failing to secure a child and driving with a suspended driver’s license.  Salgado was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond with a Mundelein court date of Sept. 7.

Traffic Arrest (Revoked)                        

 Walter L. Applewhite, 31, 12 South Lake Avenue Fox Lake, on July 26, was arrested for DWLR pursuant to a traffic stop in the 100 block of South Buesching Road.  Applewhite was charged with operating a vehicle with an obstructed windshield and driving with a revoked driver’s license (felony).
