Police Blotter: Aggravated Battery; DUI

The Lake Zurich Police Department reports crimes from July 16-18.

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Lake Zurich Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.

DUI

Jose Cortez, II, 27, of 2115 Castlebar Court, Hanover Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol July 16 on the 1000 block of South Rand Road. He also was cited with driving without a driver’s license and improper lane use. He was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond pending an Aug. 15 court date.

Traffic

Martin Gonzalez, 33, of 36 Mionske Drive, Lake Zurich, was charged with driving while license suspended July 17 near Route 12 and June Terrace. He also was cited for improper passing and failure to properly secure a child. He was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond pending an Aug. 3 court date.

Aggravated Battery

Ryan A. Messel, 21, of 1054 Partridge Lane, Lake Zurich, was charged with aggravated battery July 16 after a dispute on the 1000 block of Partridge Lane. Police said Messel was involved in a dispute and was injured when he fell. Messel then struck a firefighter who responded to the scene, police said. He was released on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond after a bond hearing.

Criminal Damage

A resident reported July 15 that someone broke a window on her car while it was parked on the 200 block of Whitney Road overnight. Damage was estimated at $250. Police are investigating.
