Lake Zurich Police: Roadside Safety Check Results in DUI Arrests

Drive Sober or, Get Pulled Over enforcement roadside safety check held over the Labor Day weekend resulted in numerous arrests.

Note: The following information was obtained from the Lake Zurich Police Department and Illinois State police. An arrest is only an accusation and does not constitute guilt. An individual can only be found guilty in a court of law.

Lake Zurich police made three driving under the influence arrests during a Labor Day roadside safety check.

The roadside safety check was held overnight on Aug. 31 in the 800 block of South Rand Road. Three people were arrested:

  • James J. Karkoszka, 42, of 4449 North New England Avenue, Harwood Heights, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, police said. Karkoszka was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond with a Waukegan court date of September 23.
  • James J. Rosemeyer, 55, of 507 West Sunset Road, Mount Prospect, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. Rosemeyer was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond with a Waukegan court date of September 23.
  • Neil R. Goheen, 27, of 2336 North Lafayette Street, Arlington Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, police said. Goheen was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond with a Waukegan court date of September 23.

Lake Zurich police was among dozens of law enforcement agencies around the state in Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, a campaign funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the state of Illinois.

Illinois State Police conducted similar checks throughout August in Cook, Kane and Lake Counties.

District 15 State Police Captain Joseph Perez announced there were a total of 98 arrests/citations during the month.  The breakdown of arrests is:

  • Driving under the influence arrests:   3
  • Drug/alcohol-related arrests:    2
  • Suspended driver’s license citations: 4
  • Speeding citations/arrests:    60, 12 warning
  • Occupant restraint citations:    9
  • Insurance citations/arrests:    7
  • All other criminal arrests:    4
