Lake Zurich Police: DUI Arrests, Burglaries Net Cash

Police release reports from the week of Aug. 12.

Note: The following information was obtained from the Lake Zurich Police Department. An arrest is only an accusation and does not constitute guilt. An individual can only be found guilty in a court of law.

DUI arrests

  • Raymond A. Dematteo, 53, of  5501 Greenview Drive, Oakwood Hills, was arrested for driving under the influence, police said. Dematteo was stopped on Route 12 at S. Old Rand Road on Aug. 16. He was also charged with speeding, improper lane usage, report stated. He was issued a court date of Sept. 23 in Waukegan and was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. 
  • Kelly A. Churchill, 25, of 460 Park Drive #3, Marengo, was arrested for driving under the influence, police reports stated. Churchill failed field sobriety tests after she was stopped on Chasewood Drive at Cuba Road early Saturday, Aug. 17, police said. She was also charged with improper lane usage and driving under the influence with a B.A.C of .08 or more, reports stated. Churchill was issued a court date of Sept. 16 in Waukegan and was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. 
  • Alexander X. Carranza, 21, of 1507 E. Winslowe Drive, Palatine, was arrested for driving under the influence on Route 12 at S. Old Rand Road early Aug. 17, police said. Carranza was also charged with improper lane usage, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and driving under the influence – combination alcohol / drugs, police said.  Carranza was issued a court date of  Sept. 16 in Waukegan and was released on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. 

Unlawful possession

Ramon Hernandez, 20, of 715 E. Rand Grove Lane, #2A Palatine, was arrested for unlawful possession with the intent to deliver cannabis, illegal transportation of an alcoholic beverage, unlawful consumption of alcoholic liquor, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 17, police said. Hernandez was the passenger in a vehicle stopped on Route 12 at S. Old Rand Road. The driver was later arrested for driving under the influence. Hernandez was arrested on the drug charges. Hernandez was issued a court date of Sept. 9 in Waukegan and was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance bond. 

Criminal damage to property

Someone caused $300 in damages to a storm window in the 700 block of block of Edelweiss Drive on Aug. 16, police said.

Burglaries to motor vehicles

Two burglaries to motor vehicles were reported on Aug. 16. The first was reported in the 200 block of S. Rand Road where someone smashed a window and grabbed a victim’s purse. The estimated loss was $270, police said. A second burglary was reported in the 800 block of S. Rand Road. The burglar was similar to the first. Someone smashed a window and grabbed a purse. The estimated value was $800, reports stated.
