Lake Zurich Firefighters, Community Find Help for Harrison

The Lake Zurich Community, showing its generosity and compassion, comes together to help a family in need; more donations needed.

Kelly and Larry Brodeur, 40 Red Haw, have been Lake Zurich residents for 15 years.  The Brodeur Family -- Kelly, Larry, Brianna (Middle School South), and Harrison (age 10) have an unsafe deck that is attached to their second story.  It is important that the Brodeur family have a safe environment for their son Harrison, as he is autistic and has seizure conditions.  Harrison loves the outdoors, but he needs supervision 24 hours a day.

A generous grant from Home Depot allowed the Lake Zurich neighbors, some Lake Zurich firefighters, Peace Lutheran Church, and other community members to come together to help this family. Home Depot will be supplying the materials, and some of the LZ firefighters have volunteered to create the deck plans and help build the deck.  Neighbors have volunteered to help with the labor, feed the workers, landscape the lawn, and donate money. The neighborhood kids have organized a “Cupcake Sale for Autism” to help with the cause.

The project is still in need of more monetary donations, as well as plants, a glider swing, deck furniture, etc. The neighbors have a special wish to build a tire swing in the backyard because Harrison loves tire swings.

The Brodeurs have given joy to the neighborhood every Christmas with their “Candy Cane Lane” decorations and candy canes for all the kids.  Their Halloween decorations are loved by kids and adults alike.  Some of the community members have put together this project to help ease a little bit of the stress in Kelly and Larry’s lives.

Harrison attends the Chicago Education Project in Schaumburg, which is a special school that District 95 has placed him.  Clearbrook also oversees a program that the Brodeur’s have for their home.  The Brodeurs are very involved in the Autism community.

The community has united for this extraordinary project.  All the volunteers agree that it feels great to come together as a Lake Zurich community to help out this family.
