Found Guilty, Man Attempts Escape at Lake County Courthouse

Following a guilty verdict on drug charges, a Zion man attempted to escape from the Lake County courtroom on Nov. 29, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. 

On Nov. 29, at 4:15 p.m. Keevan Fullwiley, 35, of the 2300 Block of 33rd St in Zion was found guilty in courtroom C220 by a jury on the charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance and Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis, according to the news release.

Following the verdict, Judge Christopher Stride ordered the defendant to be taken in to custody by the Lake County Sheriff. 

The defendant jumped from his chair and attacked a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy in an attempt to flee the courtroom, accoridng to the news release.  The Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy was struck in the face by the defendant's fist and elbow.  Deputies took the defendant to the ground where he continued to fight.  A Lake County Sheriff Deputy immediately deployed his taser on the defendant.  Deputies regained control of the defendant and he was taken into custody. 

Charges are pending and will be reviewed with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. 

One Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy sustained a serious laceration to his right elbow along with shoulder, neck, and back pain.  He was transported to Vista East Hospital where he received two staples in his elbow and x-rays were taken.
