Deputy Chief Sees Fire at Sonic, Evacuates Employees

Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue reports minimal damage.

Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department is reporting minimal damage from a fire at 205 S. Rand Rd., tonight.

The fire was noticed by the Lake Zurich Fire Department Deputy Chief Don Golubski who saw a fire on the exterior roofline of the building as he passed it on his way home from work, according to the news release. Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue responded to the the report at 5:35 p.m.

Deputy Chief Golubski reported the fire and evacuated the Sonic employees. The first engine on the scene extinguished the fire within minutes of arrival. Firefighters contained the fire to the exterior of the building with minimal damage to the façade and canopy.

Lake County Health Department was  contacted and the business will remain closed until the health department verifies no health concerns are present due to the fire. 

Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department received automatic-aid (assistance) from the Wauconda, Barrington, Long Grove, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods fire departments. No injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
