Algonquin Man Dies After Driving Car Into Pond Last Week
Emergency personnel were called to 1524 Randall Road in Algonquin Wednesday.
A 56-year-old Algonquin man who emergency personnel pulled from a submerged car that had driven into a retention pond at Algonquin Commons last week has died, according to media reports.
Paul Mellor died Friday at an area hospital — just two days after he drove his Honda Accord into a pond near Biaggi's Italian Restaurant at the Algonquin Commons, according to the Northwest Herald.
Authorities had hoped to talk to Mellor following the incident but Mellor, who has been in critical condition since he was hospitalized Wednesday, was unable to tell police what happened, according to the Daily Herald.
Firefighters pulled Mellor from his car about 11 a.m. Wednesday after he had been submerged for several minutes and "delivered advanced life support, including CPR," from the time he was pulled from the water until he arrived at the emergency room at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, according to the article.
Police told the Chicago Tribune witness reports did not shed much light into why Mellor drove into the pond and police said only Melllor knew exactly what happened.
Mellor had been the only one in the vehicle, according to the Chicago Tribune.
