Lake Zurich Relay for Life Complaint

On June 1st, 2013, the Lake Zurich Relay for Life was held at the Lake Zurich High School football field. There were a total of 32 teams that participated raising almost $100,000 (and rising daily) to help fight the ugly disease called Cancer. Relay teams camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the track. Relay events are up to 24 hours in length and, because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times. Unfortunately, our activities for the event were cut short. Apparently, a resident of Lake Zurich did not understand the importance of what we were all doing that night. They called the police and complained about the noise coming from our event. They must be a very lucky person who has never stayed up all night to comfort their loved one who is in extreme pain from their cancer or sat up all night trying to make the last few hours of their loved one’s life as comfortable as possible. They are even luckier that there are those of us who are actively trying to make a difference in the fight against cancer as unfortunately they most likely will some how be affected by cancer. They may have made us turn off the music and end all the activities for the rest of the night, but they did not stop us from our determination to raise money to provide transportation to treatments for cancer patients, or help pay hotel costs for patients during treatments or hopefully one day finding a cure. I hope that June 2014, when the resident’s of Lake Zurich hear the festivities from the Relay for Life at Lake Zurich High School, they will join our fight against cancer to better understand what the noise is all about.
