Richard Theodore Garfield, 57, formerly of Lake Zurich

Celebration of Life to be held at Community Center of Forest Lake, Feb. 16.

 

Longtime resident of Fox Lake, formerly of Lake Zurich, passed away peacefully, Friday, February 8, 2013, after a courageous 18 year battle with cancer. Born on Nov. 12, 1955, in Highwood, IL, to Russell and Rosalie (nee Obenauf) Garfield. 


Richard is remembered for his loving nature, sense of humor, courage, strength, and love of family. He enjoyed the outdoors, spending time snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing, and dearly loved his pets, Miss Kitty, Tommy Girl, and Al. He and his wife, Gloria, loved viewing Bears football games together. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Gloria (nee Resketo) Garfield; his dear mother; his loving daughters, Lindsay, and Lacey; his siblings, Russell, (Angie)Garfield, Kathy (Tom) Contri, Pam (Dan) Mowers, Bill (Melody) Garfield, WandaGarfield, Donna (Don) Powell, Chris Massa, Chuck (Julie) Garfield, Bev (Red) Ingman, Ted (Sheryl) Garfield, Ben Garfield; Aunts, Uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive.

Richard was preceded in death by his father in 2007.


Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 15, from 4 until the 7:30 p.m. funeral service at K. K. Hamsher Funeral Home, 12 N. Pistakee Lake Rd., Fox Lake, and a Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, February 16, at the Community Center of Forest Lake, 23489 N. East Road, Lake Zurich, IL. 
Memorials in Richard's name may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202

Interment will be private.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
