Obituary: Lake Zurich Firefighter Danny Gonzalez

Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department mourns firefighter.

Lake Zurich firefighter Danny Gonzalez was a veteran who shared his knowledge about the art of fire science and technical rescue to rookies and other veterans.

The Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department is mourning his loss. Gonzalez died suddenly on Aug. 1. He was born July 21, 1964.

As a Lake Zurich firefighter, he was actively involved in the department’s Training and Safety committee, according to an obituary notice on Facebook.

He was also an acting officer when needed in the department and a member of the Lake and McHenry Counties Technical Rescue Team where he was a lead instructor.

He was a past President of IAFF Local 3191.

Gonzalez started his firefighting career with the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District. He also had been a member of the Kane County Sheriff’s Police Correctional Division, according to the obituary.

Gonzalez served in the United States Marine Corps and was involved with the local Marine Corps veteran’s group.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 at Wait Ross Allanson Funeral Home, 51 Center St., Elgin. A fire department line-up and walk thru will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

The visitation will continue at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 to the time of a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Saint Laurence Catholic Church, 572 Standish Street, Elgin.

Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, with a full military service.
