Bruce graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. Most of his career was spent working in the cellular phone division at Motorola in Libertyville, and he finished his career at Sears Headquarters in Hoffman Estates. Bruce enjoyed visiting National Parks with his family, coaching volleyball, a sarcastic comment or two, and taking care of animals. He taught his daughter to have an infinite amount of patience, and to always take the scenic route. His perfect day would include teeing off at the golf course in the morning, lunch at Bellalukes with his wife, an episode of "Seinfeld," and fishing at dusk off his pier on Bangs Lake. He found pleasure and peace in life’s simple events.

Survivors include his wife, Janet M. Hillier (nee Dailing); daughter, Amy (Fiance, Kevin Jackson) Hillier; brother, Ronald (Julie) Hillier; sister, Kathleen (Daniel) McLaughlin; twin, Brian (Brenda) Hillier; and many nieces and nephews.
