Special Olympics this Weekend!

Special Olympics comes to Lake Zurich High School on Sunday. Lake Zurich Rotary members are among the vounteers. Please join us!

Special Olympics comes to Lake Zurich High School again this weekend and Lake Zurich Rotarians are happily helping out as volunteers.  Lake Zurich Rotary is also helping out financially again with a sponsorship.  We are looking forward to seeing all the happy faces of the special athletes and their families and to cheering them on.

Opening ceremonies of the Area 13 Spring Games, complete with athlete parade, begin at 9 a.m. at Lake Zurich High School on Sunday May 6.  Competition in a variety of track and field events will conclude at approximately 1 p.m.

Recently, Rotarians heard about the personal impact of Special Olympics from Global Messenger Ela Stoklosa, a six-sport gold medalist.  Ela has participated in Special Olympics for many years and told Rotarians that she likes it because it "provides athletes opportunitis to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and share persnal skills."  The focus, she said was on what children and adults with intellectual disabilities can do, not what they can't.
