Open Space Plan to be Presented to Lake Zurich Rotary

Lake Zurich Rotary meeting, Friday Oct. 21 at 12:15, on the Lake Zurich Open Space Plan.

Tomorrow, Mike Perkins, director of the Lake Zurich Parks and Recreation Department, will talk to about the village's . Recently approved by the village board, the master plan is intended to guide spending on Lake Zurich parks and open space over the next few years.

Perkins says the updated plan was necessary to qualify for state and federal grants. It also sets spending priorities over the next year.

The plan has not been without some controversy, with some residents pointing out that not all parks are mentioned in the plan. In addition, it requires that park land be assessed for market valuation, a requirement that some residents interpret as preparation to sell park properties, an idea that Perkins dismisses but will discuss with Rotary members.

Perkins will also present data gathered in the process of preparing the plan, including the results of a community-wide survey.

The Rotary meeting takes place at 12:15 on Friday at Chauncery Banquets, 365 Surryse Road, (across from the old post office), Lake Zurich.
