Home Waters Prove Friendly to Waukegan Y Swimmers

The Northern Lake YMCA Seahorse swim team made another strong showing while hosting a dual meet against the Poseidons from Berwyn’s PAV YMCA.

The Northern Lake YMCA Seahorse swim team made another strong showing while hosting a dual meet against the Poseidons from Berwyn’s PAV YMCA Oct. 22 at the Waukegan High School pool.

“We had some amazing time drops at this meet – 20-plus seconds in some cases,” Head Coach Mike Hewitt said. “The kids are working hard and showing a lot of improvement for this year in the season.”

Taylor Rouse dropped 15.55 seconds in the 7-8 Girls 25-yard freestyle and 28.4 seconds from the 50-yard freestyle. Nenna Rouse shaved 23.87 seconds from her 9-10 Girls 50-yard freestyle time and 36.91 from the 100-yard freestyle. Natan Weiner reduced his 9-10 Boys 100-yard freestyle by 10.43 seconds.

The Seahorses’ next home event will be the Seahorse Invitational at Northern Lake YMCA, 2000 Western Ave. in Waukegan, on Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. Before that, the team travels to the Foglia YMCA in Lake Zurich on Oct. 30 for the “Swamp Invitational.”

Registration for the 2011-12 season is still open. Stop by the Y in Waukegan on Mondays and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for more information or visit www.seahorseswimming.org.

The Lake County Family YMCA swim program, which includes the Seahorse and Vernon Hills-based Turtles competitive teams, is well-rounded in that it also includes fund raising, volunteering and social responsibility development.

All Lake County Family YMCA programs are designed to encourage the four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. For more information, visit www.lakecountyymca.org

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
