The project portion involved the team researching food safety and then performing a skit on the topic. Coach Stacy Mergenthaler said the team was "asked to perform the skit in front of everyone at the tournament to demonstrate what a skit should look like."

"They took home a really nice-looking trophy and each (member) received a medal," said Mergenthaler. "It was a great day!"

"The Bricks" participate in the First LEGO League. For Saturday's tournament, the boys built and programmed a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot that had to perform a series of tasks.

The team consists of: Alex Li, seventh-grader at Quest Academy; and sixth-graders Patrick Burns, Collin Coover, Drake Heisterkamp, Justin Miller and Brett Rothas.

The team also placed in the top three for "Core Values," Mergenthaler said.
