On Sept. 5, 1957, Jack Kerouac's On the Road was published, according to History.com. The novel was a classic of the Beat movement and is filled with characters based on Beat figures like Allen Ginsberg and William Burroughs.

Have you read On the Road? I haven't yet, but it's been on my list of novels I should read for a long time.

Before you start, you may want to do some research on why On the Road is important. I recommend John Leland's "Why Kerouac Matters."
Also, you need to seek out the original version of the book, which was a single scroll that captured his stream-of-consciousness in a way which the edited book doesn't even come close.

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps that will be my next book.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
