Triathlon, Civil War Days Among Local Events This Weekend

Where/When: ; 6 - 9 p.m., Friday, July 8.

Why Go?: Kids looking for a night of fun are invited to come to the Strong Kids Center while their parents enjoy a night out. There will be crafts, games and stories, and dinner will be served. Register early as space is limited. Please note that the YMCA staff cannot change diapers. Potty-trained children are preferred, but children who are not trained will be accepted under the condition that if the child needs diapering, parents will be notified and will have to return to the Y to change the diaper.

Where/When: ; 3 - 7 p.m., Friday, July 8.

Why Go?: Shop for locally-grown, fresh fruits and vegetables along with handmade items. The market will be open rain or shine.

Where/When: ;  6:50 a.m., Sunday, July 10.

Why Go?: Take a one-loop swim, updated bike ride and run the mostly flat course during the area's premier USAT-sanctioned Olympic distance triathlon.

Pricing: $80 per individual; $140 per team

Where / When: , Valkar Hall; 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Friday, July 8 and Saturday, July 9.

Why Go?: Shop for gently used items at the Emmaus House rummage sale. Proceeds will help in the efforts of Emmaus House to provide clothing, funds and food for families in need while trying to eliminate the social causes of poverty. Call (847) 814-0212 for more information.

Where/When: Lake County Discovery Museum, 27277 N. Forest Preserve Road, Wauconda; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9 and 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Sunday, July 10.

Why Go?: Two-day living history event in honor of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Cavalry, infantry and artillery reenactors, musicians and civilians. Large-scale battle re-enactment, activities for kids and Civil War era shopping.

Pricing: $8 for adults; $4 for children ages 4-17; free for children 3 years old and under; two-day admission is $12 per adult and $6 per child age 4 and up. Save $1 per two-day admission when tickets are purchased online. A coupon for $1 off admission is also available.
