Taste of Towns Brings in Less Money Due to Rain

Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce expects to make significantly less this year on its most recent fundraiser.

A steady rain on Sunday afternoon significantly cut the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce's fundraising efforts at its annual Taste of the Towns, chamber officials said.

The money raised will be about 60 percent of what the chamber usually brings in during this particular event held at Paulus Park, said Dale Perrin, the chamber's executive director.

The rain began lightly sprinkling Sunday afternoon, prompting many people to use umbrellas and wear rain coats, Perrin said. It was in stark contrast to last year's event when it was warm and sunny, he said.

By the end of this year's event at about 7 p.m., it began to rain quite hard. Even so, organizers were surprised at how many people came out despite the rain, Perrin said.

The money that the chamber raises is used to fund chamber activities as well as the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA) after-school program at Lake Zurich High School.

Although the chamber didn't make as much this year, it will not have to cut any part of that program, Perrin said, because fortunately, the chamber's golf outing in June this year did better than expected.
