Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test Nov. 9

The first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System will take place on Wednesday.

This is a test — this is only a test. But it's a big one.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Communications Commission and the National Weather Service will conduct the first national test of the Nationwide Emergency Alert System.

This test will began at 1 p.m. (CST). The 30-second test will be on all broadcasters, satellite and digital radio and television, cable television and wireline video providers.

Typically, these tests are handled at the local level. This is the first time the test will be conducted at a national level.
