Historical Society To Hold Tours This Weekend

Have you purchased your tickets yet?

As the Ela Historical Society gears up for its first "From Then Till Now" historical tour of local buildings and homes, Lake Zurich Patch is featuring some of the locations that will be included on the tour.

This week's home involves some land on North Old Rand Road. Ela Historical Society records show that in 1841, Seth Paine and Daniel A. Baldwin bought 160 acres of land in the area for just $200. Some of that land was sold to John Robertson in 1857, and the land stayed within his family for many years. Some of the Robertson property was then sold to Cora Leonard in 1920. She gave her son part of the property when he got married, and he and his wife owned cottages and rented rooms.

Want to know more? You can learn more by attending one of the historical tours slated for Aug. 20. The bus/walking tours will be held at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and at 1 and 2 p.m. Each tour will last about two hours.

Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 the day of the tours. The tours will depart from the Ela Historical Society, 95 E. Main St. Refreshments and free drawings will be offered after the tours.

For more information, call the historical society at (847) 438-2086.
