Historic School Fire Program at Ela Area Public Library

Learn about the tragic fire at Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago.

 

One of the worst school fires in U.S. history occurred on Dec. 1, 1958, on the north side of Chicago. The Our Lady of the Angels fire resulted in the death of 92 children and three nuns.

On the 54th anniversary of this tragedy, the Ela Area Public Library will host a program on the tragedy. Learn what really caused the fire and the changes in the fire code that were put into place after this disaster.
