Busy Brains Children's Museum Finds a Home

The new facility will be located in Lake Villa, and draw adults and kids from throughout the region.

"We have a signed contract!" said Alison Price, founder of Busy Brains Children's Museum. She and founder Kathy Goers have been seeking a location since 2003 for Lake County’s first children’s museum. Now they have one - 130 Cedar Avenue in downtown Lake Villa.

"Kathy and I are extremely stubborn," said Price. "It is a huge relief to have found a location. We are very excited about this!"

They expect to draw visitors from throughout Lake County, McHenry County and Kenosha County in Wisconsin.

The eight galleries of Busy Brains Children's Museum will relate to the sciences, the arts and the humanities. It will be designed for kids from birth to age 10. They will cater to school field trips and home school families.

To help bring the Busy Brains Children's Museum vision to life, they are holding a capital campaign to raise $1.5 million in order to open the doors.

Busy Brains Children’s Museum will host its 4th annual “BrainBuilder 2013: Mingle at the Mansion” from 7 - 11 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Lehmann Mansion, 485 N. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa. There will be a cash bar, silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

Proceeds from the event will help transform the site of the former car dealership, which had been vacant for five or six years, into an active space where kids can play and learn.

They need more volunteers for the May 4 event, as well as for their BusyBrains committees and Board of Directors. Tickets for Brain Builder 2013 are available via the Busy Brains web site at www.busybrains.org or by calling 224-381-0138.
