2011 Second Wettest in Chicago History, So Far

Could rain on Thursday make this year a wet record-breaker?

Early morning rain on Dec. 27 has elevated 2011 to the second wettest in Chicago history, according to the WGN Chicago Weather Center blog. Chicago’s weather records date back to 1871.

The wettest year was as recently as 2008, when the city recorded 50.86 inches. So far this year, there have been 49.41 inches.  The third wettest year was back in 1983 with 49.35 inches.

Most of this year’s rain came in July, when O’Hare recorded a total of 10.74 inches, making it the wettest July ever.

February 2011 was the snowiest ever in Chicago history with a total of 28.6 inches, according to the Chicago Weather Center Blog.

There is a chance that 2011 could be the wettest month ever with a forecast for significant precipitation on Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.  A chance of rain continues for Friday.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
