Why Health Insurance Isn't Enough?

Ever wonder why we pay for insurance to pay others, however very little insurance is purchased to pay us or our families.

Many families and individuals have insurance for almost everything, Home, Auto, Life, Health, Cell Phone, and more..Why?  Is it we want to spend the money?  Is it because we want to ensure everything of value is protected?  The latter is usually the case.  Lets take the case of Health Insurance.  Many of us have it and rarely use it.  Frustrating sometimes to continue to pay premiums which hardly ever go down or even stay the same year over year.  However, a time may come when you have to use it.  Say a major critical illness, an accident, or even something causing you to have to stay in the hospital for a few days.  If that happens you will be very happy to have health insurance.  Yet, the flaw still remains, it pays the doctors and the hospitals, but it doesn't pay you.

All of us have known someone with cancer, heart disease, the real scary stuff.  We also have seen our children hospitalized for some virus or accident.  We need to ensure we are taken care of financially as well.  Why pay insurance to pay others, and not have coverage that pays you?  Most people do not know it exsists or what it does or how it works.

I can give a little story about my son.  10 months old and hospitalized for RSV and Bronchiolitis.  Kid was struggling to breath and it was scary.  SUPER happy I have health insurance, and I also know I am getting money paid to use from and Insurance company for his 2 nights in the hospital.  Awesome knowing this isn't going to cost us a lot of money out of pocket and I can afford to not work a few days to take care of my son and nurse him back to health.
