White Nights, A Celebration of Russian Ballet: The BYDE Hosts Annual Gala

Barrington, IL, October 28, 2013 –– The Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble hosted their annual fundraising Gala, White Nights – A Celebration of Russian Ballet on Saturday, October 12th at the Eden Palais Carousel House in the Barrington Hills estate of Jasper and Marian Sanfilippo. Over $80,000 was raised to support the BYDE 2013 performance of The Nutcracker to be performed December 6-8, 2013 at Richard C. Johnson Auditorium in Barrington High School and the 25th Anniversary Concert to be held on June 13 and 14, 2014.

The benefit featured appearances by BYDE alumni, current BYDE dancers, as well as other Chicago area artists. More than 150 arts enthusiasts enjoyed selections from Swan Lake performed by BYDE company dancers, with choreography by Guillermo Leyva, Karen Janet, and Chelsea DuBois. Guests were given docent led tours of the Sanfilippo Estate and its incredible historic music instrument collections, followed by a delectable catered dinner. The evening also included live and silent auctions filled with exquisite donations such as a vacation for six at The Tarpon Cove Yacht and Tennis Club on Paradise Coast in Naples, Florida, a Cocktail Cruise for eight on Lake Michigan, and a Hermes handbag. Courtesy of Tensile Strength Studios, this year’s raffle was four sold out tickets to the Selena Gomez concert at The Allstate Arena.

“For so many dance devotees, Swan Lake, set to Tchaikovsky’s ground breaking score, is the ultimate dance drama,” says Mary Brennan, Founder and Artistic Director of BYDE. “Our artistic staff felt it was important to expose our dancers to this ever compelling music and choreography.”

Co-chairs Susan Streeter and Jane Zimmer called the event “a beautiful evening while supporting our local community’s developing ballet talent and BYDE’s 2013 Nutcracker production.”
