Volle, founder of Volle's Bridal and Boutique in downtown Lake Zurich, is 90 years old today.
She has been retired for five years, but still stops into the popular Lake Zurich business regularly.
"I visit all the time. I just stop in, pat the girls on the back and tell them keep going, keep going," she said.
The bridal shop planned to celebrate Volle's birthday as well as Deanna Dean's birthday, all week. Dean, Volle's daughter-in-law, currently runs the business with her husband.
Volle emigrated from Germany with her family in 1923. Volle's creative talent took her around the world from Hong Kong to Lake Zurich, where she settled in 1944. She opened the downtown bridal shop in 1971.The shop has served generations of brides throughout the years.
"You'd be surprised how many mothers we served come in with their offspring, just to visit. When their daughters grow up and it's time for their wedding, they bring them here. It's a wonderful thing to be in a little town and start a business like that," she said.

Volle said she decided to retire when her oldest son, George, died.
"I would have still been going if not for my son's death. I just lost interest. It was time to put down the needles," Volle said.
Volle said she is seeking another creative endeavor.
"I'm a creator. I have to have something that will hold my interest. When I get it, I'll be right there to do it," she said.
