Shop Locally in Libertyville on Small Business Saturday on Nov. 24

Start your holiday shopping at locally owned stores during Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on.

American Express founded the day in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Libertyville.

Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities. You can also “like” Small Business Saturday on Facebook by visiting www.facebook.com/shopsmall.

Everyone has locally owned businesses in their community, and shopping on Small Business Saturday is the perfect way to give back to the businesses you know and love in your community.

One of my favorite restaurants is located right here in Libertyville: Casa Bonita. Those flautas are fantastic! And I plan to try to do some of my Christmas shopping at the great shops downtown!

Oh, Olive! encourages its customers to taste and taste some more before mking selections to buy! I love knowing what I'm buying.

Thanks for the comment, Shirley! I'll have to include Oh, Olive! in my series that features the downtown businesses!

There are so many wonderful shops in Libertyville owned by local people. I've already done some shopping at The Serendipity Shop. Kristin along with her mom, daughter and good friends make shopping here like visiting family. They are wonderful! Kristine at How Impressive! always has great suggestions for the hard to shop for person on your list. The staff at The Runner's Edge is very knowledgeable and does an excellent job of fitting you in the best type of shoe for any type of activity. The mom & daughter team - Margaret & Mary - at Eclectic have a beautiful collection of unique home decor. Erin & Tricia at ReNew Family Consignment created an amazing place to find great bargains on accessories, sporting goods, furniture and home decor. These are just a few of my local go-to stores that have great products but it's the owners/employees that keep me coming back. I truly enjoy every visit at these stores because I feel so welcome. (I haven't even mentioned the great dining options.) Shop 60048!

Our downtown is certainly run by wonderful people who care about their customers and want to deliver great service. I am happy Patch is profiling a few. Small Business Saturday is great to bring awareness of local businesses, but it shouldn't stop there. As a former shop owner I can say that more than one day is needed to keep a full, lively business district going. The selection of shops we have now is superb. Whether I need a $20 gift or a large, impressive item, I always come downtown first. I have yet to be disappointed. I just hope more people support these stores so we do not see more for rent signs.
