, a banquet center and and reception hall in Lemont, has reportedly closed its doors.
Montefiori, located at 11250 Archer Ave., was closed off by chains Monday afternoon. As of 1 p.m., its phone line is disconnected and its website, www.montefiori.com, is shut down.
In an email to Patch on Monday, wedding photographer Robin Stephens said she was contacted by a client who heard Montefiori had closed but has been unable to get any further information.
Village officials did not immediately return calls from Patch, but a number of commenters on various websites claim they received certified letters from Montefiori over the weekend.
"Just recieved a certified letter that Montefiori is closing after I had already put a down payment down," said one commenter on Chicago Citysearch. "My wedding was to be in 6 Months and now I have to start all over and find somewhere with the same date. This is so sad and I'm even considering going from a 150 person wedding to go and elope because I cant do it all over again."
"Yes I too had my wedding planned for June 2012 and received certified mail that they were closing down," Kristy D. of Joliet wrote on Yelp. "I'm so upset and mad about the whole thing. We too had the down payment put down.
"We just found out yesterday so I'm still trying to take it all in and figure out what to do but they have ruined pretty much my wedding. We are trying to figure out where we are going to go from here."
"I really liked this place, and was looking forward to our June 16 wedding, but I just found out that it closed," wrote Kelly C. of Willowbrook. "We still haven't received any notification. So now we have to figure out what to do about our wedding that is six months away.
"The thing is it would have been really nice to know sooner when we actually had time to act on a plan B. Now we have to figure out what to do and I am in the process of contacting all of our other vendors. I am so disappointed and feel really let down."
