Get Out for Candy Cane Hunt, Beatles Tribute in Lake Zurich

The Lake Lions Club will host its annual Candy Cane Hunt with prizes for kids that find special candy canes.

Superstorm Sandy Charity Event with The Cavern Beat (Beatles Tribute Band)

Saturday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m., Knights of Columbus, 365 Surryse Rd, Lake Zurich,

The Cavern Beat (premier Beatles tribute band) will be performing with proceeds benefiting the Knights of Columbus United States Relief Fund. Also, if possible, please bring donations to support the Village of Lake Zurich's efforts to collect severely needed items. Admission is $15, kids under 12 are free.

 

Holiday Fair at Da Vinci Waldorf School

Saturday, Dec. 1, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Da Vinci Waldorf School, 150 W. Bonner Rd., Wauconda

The little ones can enjoy a Winter Wonderland with a variety of craft activities, while adults shop for handcrafted, artisan creations at the Kindermarket. There will also be musical performances and food. Admission is free. 

A Dickensian Christmas

Saturday, Dec. 1, 1-2 p.m.  Lake County Discovery Museum  

Since the publication of "A Christmas Carol" in 1843, Charles Dickens has become forever linked with Christmas, influencing our celebration of the holiday to this day. In this program, John Danza will discuss Dickens’ Christmas works and how his depiction of Christmas has created some of the most iconic characters in literature. You’ll also have an opportunity to win a set of Charles Dickens’ Christmas books, just in time for reading with the family around the hearth. Cost is $7 for Lake County residents, $9 for non-residents. Registration deadline is Nov. 30. 

Barrington Aglow

Saturday, Dec. 1 all day, throughout Barrington 

Don’t miss this Christmas tradition in the village of Barrington. Take the free trolley to shopping centers all over town including The Foundry, the Shops at Lageschulte, Ice House Mall, and the village center. Each shopping center has something special planned including a petting zoo at The Foundry, and story time with Mrs. Claus at the Ice House Mall. The village tree lighting ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at the corner of Park and Cook Streets near Main Street. Visits with Santa are from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the red house on Cook Street. The Nutcracker

Barrington High School

Barrington Youth Dance Ensemble will perform the holiday favorite The Nutcracker at Barrington High School all weekend. Several area youth are cast as main roles including Barrington’s Hannah Ray as the Dew Drop Fairy and Brittany Bonefas of Lake Zurich High School as The Snow Queen. Yule Log Open House

Sunday, Dec. 2 2 to 4 p.m.

Stillman Nature Center 

Learn how to make this festive seasonal decoration out of natural materials. It makes a great centerpiece. Kids are welcome but no scout groups, please. Stop by anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. Please call 847-428-6957 to let Stillman Nature Center know you will be attending. Member's fee: 1st log free, non-member's fee: $5/log.

Wow, this story really shows how selfish some people are now. The person who complained to theRead More police better hope he/she never needs any help or compassion from anyone or any organization. They don't deserve it. You were trying to have a great event and some hater couldn't put earplugs in their ears for one night of their life if they didn't like the noise. So sad. Way to go for your efforts though! Bob
