Despite Rain, Residents Turn Out For Taste Of The Towns

The Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce's Taste of the Towns attracted many residents who braved the wet weather. About 15 vendors set up in Paulus Park to share their menus with residents.

When Taste of the Town organizers said that their event Sunday would go on rain or shine, they surely meant it.

Despite a nearly constant drizzle, residents came out to Paulus Park for the annual event, sponsored by the Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce, that features restaurants, wineries and breweries.

From 3 to 7 p.m., about 15 vendors were busy as residents, carrying umbrellas and wearing raincoats, braved the unseasonably wet weather.

Although many came out, vendors said the weather appeared to have put a little bit of a damper on the event.

Cathi Voltante, the owner of Couture Cupcake Cafe, a Kildeer business, said last year that about three times as many people showed up.

But despite the weather, Voltante said she was surprised there were as many people as there were. She had a constant stream of people who wanted her Belgium chocolate chunk cupcakes with varying toppings.

"The turnout as been excellent considering the weather," Voltante said. "I didn't expect to see as many umbrellas here. A lot of people have showed up. It's amazing.

The event also featured live music, including Triple Dawg Dare and Alex & the Allstars, that played despite the rain and a kids' crafts tent where some of the children spent their time painting over a car that was parked on the grassy area of Paulus Park.
