The National Weather Service has placed our area in the "slight risk" category for severe weather today.

According to the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued at 9:27 p.m. Saturday, thunderstorms are expected to develop across northwestern Illinois and likely "evolve into a linear squall line" that will move east through north central and northeastern Illinois.

"After the transition to a linear squall line, the main severe weather threat will be strong, damaging winds," the National Weather Service said in its statement.

Here in Lake Zurich, the National Weather Service has forecast a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day today and an 80 percent chance of precipitation tonight.
